A self confessed mad scientist, presently without an evil genius lair … but I am working on it

I guess I can describe myself as an evolutionary RNA bioinformatician with a love of taking incomprehensible data and making biological sense of it.  After years in molecular biology I crossed to the ‘Dark side’ not only in researching the RNA Underworld but undertaking a doctorate in bioinformatics. Presently, I research proteins and RNAs that stem back to Fred- the eukaryotic ancestor, connecting the modern RNA underworld to the ancient RNA world. Then in my copious amounts of spare time I am a bioinformatics consultant, a knitter and practitioner of Tai Chi.

This is my unofficial site since I am between 'official' ones at the university at the moment. Anyway, this is much more fun ;-)
